Special Education

The purpose of the Special Education Committee is to create a community of parents with interests in the continuum of special education services and to provide an avenue for communication, information and support.

Areas of Focus

  • Build awareness and acceptance of families and children with special needs.
  • Provide resources to parents who are new to the special education process or who need additional support as they navigate the system.
  • Share special education related information with the school community from national, state and local agencies.
  • Ensure that PTA events are inclusive to all students and their parents.

Parent Resource Center

The Parent Resource Center of the Fairfax County Public Schools promotes parent awareness of the services provided by the Fairfax County Public Schools for children with special needs and their families. The Center encourages parent participation in the educational decision-making process and provides seminars, training programs, and information to foster the parent/professional partnership. The Center also serves as a resource for educators and the community.

Dyslexia

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month. To learn about dyslexia, see the International Dyslexia Association Fact Sheet here and the FCPS Understanding Dyslexia flyer.

Vienna Little League Challenger Program

Registration for the 2012 Vienna Little League Challenger Program is now open!
The Vienna Challenger Little League is baseball for boys and girls that have any special needs that preclude them from participating in the mainstream Little League.

Please click here to register your player.

Participation is free and children do not need any baseball experience. The first game of the 2012 spring season immediately follows the Vienna Little League opening day ceremonies at Yeonas Park on Saturday April 14th. All other Challenger games will be played on Sunday afternoons at 1:30 pm. Players will participate in games with assistance from other Vienna Little League Majors players and coaches. We encourage parents to watch from the stands or participate on the field. We'd Love to Have Your Child Join Us for an exciting and fun season of baseball!

For more information or questions about the Vienna Little League Challenger Program, please contact Steve Jones
