Ongoing News

  • New Update on the 5K Track. Parents: We have been working very hard over the last several months to explore several options for the track in the back field. Two viable options have been blue stone dust (as originally stated to parents) and asphalt. The costs are significantly higher for the asphalt. I have received feedback from several families regarding the track. While we would love to explore the asphalt surface, we are not confident we could raise the additional $30,000 in a timely manner to move forward. If anyone knows of a corporation that would be wiling to put up this money, or if a family is willing to write a BIG check, then we can consider this option! However, we are looking ahead at the new tech center. We know that families are excited about the tech center and have expressed an interest in supporting this venture, too.

We are pleased that we have found a great bid for the stone dust and we are waiting for county approval to move forward. The blue stone dust is the FCPS preferred surface that is endorsed by the county. If this bid is accepted, it will be significantly below our first two bids, so we hope to give some money back from the 5k proceeds towards our “annual donation” back to the school at the end of the year. Dr. Blain will give us her “wish list” of items at the June PTA meeting that the school would like to purchase with our help. We will vote on that donation at that meeting.

Please contact me, JoAnne Hammermaster, if you have any questions about the track or budget. Thank you for your support of this great project.
